The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley announced that a motion was filed to vacate Evin King’s 1995 murder conviction. Forensic evidence that was presented at King’s trial was reviewed and determined to be inaccurate. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning to review the motion.
King was convicted in 1995 for the murder of his girlfriend, Crystal Hudson. The jury found King guilty based upon scientific evidence, his presence in the apartment, and inconsistent statements, but King is claiming innocence.
According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the way the DNA evidence was presented in 1995 is no longer valid today.
“The State must pursue justice. After learning of the current analysis of the evidence, I believe that it is my duty to vacate Evin King’s conviction,” said Prosecutor O’Malley.
