MIAMI (CNN) – When it came to cleaning up after destructive Hurricane Irma, Sister Margaret Ann of Archbiship Coleman F. Carroll High School took matters into her own hands, with a chainsaw.
The video has caught the attention of the nation.
An off-duty officer in Miami was driving through the neighborhood when he stopped in his tracks and filmed her at work.
The nun said she did it out of a concern for the safety of people traveling through the area.
“The road was blocked. We couldn’t get through, and I saw somebody spin in the mud and almost go into a wall going off the road. And so there was a need. I had the means, and I wanted to help out,” Sister Margaret Ann said.
She knew that chainsaws were stored in a closet at Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High School, so she grabbed one.
“We teach our students to do what you can to help, and so this was an opportunity where I could do something to help, and thanks be to God, I was able to do it,” Sister Margaret Ann said.
Other people also helped out, including alumni from the school and members of the community.
The Miami-Dade Police Department left a comment with the video on Facebook.
In it, the department thanked the nun and the rest of the community for coming together.
