Ashley Mason, the 25-year-old woman accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a Parma High School student, appeared in court on Friday morning.

According to court records, Mason is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old in the Metroparks. Police say the alleged incidents took place between Jan. 23 and Feb. 6 of this year, away from school property. School administrators said they found out about the incident Monday.

School officials say that Mason, who is charged with one count of sexual battery, is not a Parma Schools employee, but rather an employee contracted through the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County. The Educational Service Center was also informed of the incident. She has been placed on administrative leave.

The parent or guardian of the Parma High School student was notified of the incident and the student has been released into their custody. Parma police and Parma City School District officials are investigating.

Mason’s bond was set at $5,000. Her case is now bound over to the grand jury.
