RTA fare increase coming, what does it mean for riders?

The first first RTA fare increase in seven years is happening this weekend.  Ridership decreases & funding cuts have left RTA is struggling to make up a multi-million dollar deficit.

“The state funding for public transit is dismal, one of the worse in the country,” RTA CEO and General Manager Joe Calabrese said during a meeting at City Hall in April. “It’s gone from $43 million in 2001 to $7.3 million currently.”

RTA leaders settled on across-the-board fare increases, as well as removing or shortening a number of different bus lines, hoping to balance the budget.

A full list of fare changes can be found here.

Bus and train route changes are also coming.
