NBA All-Star guard Dwyane Wade has signed a 1-year, $2.3 million deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to league sources.
Wade agreed to a contract buyout with the Chicago Bulls earlier this week.
Here’s instant analysis from Cleveland 19 sports anchor Mark Schwab:
When LeBron left for Miami, he was moving to ‘Wade’ County, now it’s Wade packing boxes, headed for The Land. Can those two recreate the chemistry they had in Miami? Not exactly like they had it, but this could be fun.
The first thing to try to figure out is the line-up. I’ve seen scenarios where the starting back court would be Derrick Rose and Wade, Rose and J.R. Smith or Wade and Smith. Most likely it will be Wade or Rose coming off the bench, I do not think they will be on the floor very much at the same together because neither really does much for stretching the floor. They can make the occasional three, but that is about it.
Defensively there was a time when he was on the 2nd Team All-Defensive Team, he did that three times, but the last time was in 2010. He is not that guy anymore, just like he is not the offensive threat he once was. That said, when it’s the playoffs, and he’s back with LeBron on a team that has a chance to win it all, you would think his effort will be there.
Unfortunately, this does not put the Cavaliers on the same level as Golden State, but June is long ways off, and the journey is just getting started. The Cavaliers will still have chances to improve themselves even further before the trade deadline in February. This was a good start.
Monday, at the Cavs Media Day, LeBron James was asked if would like see Wade in Cleveland.
“It brings another play maker to the team. It would be great to have him here. I’ve talked to D. Wade throughout the whole summer, I’ll probably reach out to him as well but its really not up to me. But I hope that we can bring him here, I would love to have him,” LeBron James said during Media Day.
