Tax Day is April 18, 2017.
Traditionally Tax Day is April 15, but when it falls on a weekend it is moved to the following Monday. Except this year Monday, April 17 is Emancipation Day — a holiday in Washington, D.C. that commemorates the day President Abraham Lincoln freed slaves and closes government offices, including the Internal Revenue Service.
Deadlines can vary among taxpayers who live and work abroad or for military members who are serving in combat zones. Tax filers have until April 18 to also file for a six month extension from the IRS.
